Kiwi Land Applique

On Monday Lisa went to Robin's home (a knitting group friend) and helped her with a quilt that she was having difficulty with. They sewed and chatted and had a discussion on the differences between her church and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints.
At the same time Ed went and visited with Campbell Richards and had a discussion on the importance of being a righteous father. Campbell is making some major changes in his life and is being a great example to his wife and 5 daughters.
Monday evening we had Gloria Pratt over for dinner and FHE (Family home evening)
30 minutes before Gloria arrived, we realized that the oven was not on bake, and not cooking the food which had been in there for the past 1 1/2 hours. We raised the temperature and turned the convection fan on, and somehow everything worked out!

Tuesday, Lisa made chocolate chip cookies for the Northland zone conference. This will be the first Zone conference that the Senior Missionaries will be in charge of the meal rather than the local Relief Society sisters.  Elder and Sister Packer stopped by on their way up to Kaikohe, and dropped off Sister Petersen to spend the night at our flat. It was fun "catching up" with Sister Petersen. We had dinner and then took her with us to our Tuesday evening Maori class.

Wednesday morning we awoke to frost on the car! We then drove 2 1/2 hours north to Kaikohe
for the zone conference. Sister Petersen took the following video from the back seat as we traveled.
We had a wonderful zone conference and helped with the lunch and clean up. Sister Petersen did a cute presentation during lunch.... motivating the Missionaries to exercise and eat properly.

Thursday was knitting group for Lisa and mowing day at Sister Pratt's for Ed.
We attended an annual membership meeting for the community choir. Following the meeting we had a shared meal and then proceeded with the choir practice.

On Friday Lisa met up with the sewing group at Clever Endeavours and Ed went and visited with Bob and Shirley Phillips, who will be moving south towards Auckland next week.

Here are some of the local critters we encountered this week.....

Saturday morning started at 3am with a phone call from the local Elders. Their smoke / CO2 alarm was going off and they were told to leave their flat. So they came over to our flat with their blankets in hand to get a few more hours of sleep!
Later in the day we attended the North Land Spinners demonstration in Wellsford.

We then made a visit to Ani Raharaha, a long time Maori member in Mangawhai, and finished off the day getting fish and chips at the Port Albert general store.

On Sunday we traveled to Dargaville for our church meetings and a shared meal with the members.
We stopped in to see Kathleen  Bennett and her daughter Laura. Laura gave birth to a baby girl last week. Lisa presented Laura with a hand made baby quilt which she had just completed. We then made a quick visit to Meri Wright and then headed back to Wellsford to bake some chocolate chip cookies to take to the Buxton family.

I love the following you tube video.
Here is a portion of a talk from Dieter F. Uchtdorf on patience.
Enjoy!
