Wellsford New Zealand

Last week we headed 70 miles north to Dargaville and spent the day meeting with the Elders and President Lisiate and visited a sister who has been ill for some time.
We returned to Wellsford and would return to Dargaville on Sunday for church.
On Saturday we drove south towards Auckland to Kumea to the annual Woolfest at the Showgrounds.
It was fun to see all of  the people in their hand knits and the lovely wool and fiber. Lisa ended up with a cute little spinning wheel that's a lovely wood, made in New Zealand!

It was a beautiful, fall day and the drive was wonderful. On the way home we stopped in Port Albert to see the wharf and water there and have some amazing fish and chips at the general store.

On Sunday we drove up to Dargaville for church. They had a potluck after church-can't remember what they called it! It was nice to visit and introduce ourselves to everyone.

After church we attempted to visit 5 different less active families but no one was home. We did visit a wonderful man, Brother Midgley, who lives on top of the mountains/hills with a fantastic view of ocean expanse! We enjoyed our visit there and then it was time for a dinner invitation. We had a lovely and very delicious dinner with the Frood's and then headed back to our flat in Dargaville for the night.
On Monday we did some visiting of less active members and walked around Dargaville to familiarize ourselves with the town. Ed gave out some "pass along cards" as we walked down the main street. We asked around for some community service opportunities that we will check up on this week.
We returned to Wellsford Monday night and traveled to Whangarei Tuesday morning for District Counsel Meeting. We did some shopping there and Lisa went for a swim at the Aquatic Center before heading back to Wellsford.
Yesterday we had to take our car in  for the annual Warrant of Fitness (safety) inspection in Warkworth, so the car dealership gave us a ride into town. We walked around and explored for most of the day- 10:30-2:30 while waiting for the car to be done.

Ed lost a filling off a tooth and we happened to walk by a dental office, so we popped in to see if we could make an appointment. The dentist had time right then to do it! She said she was just about to leave, 10 mins. later would have been too late!
We visited with quite a few people, in one shop, the female sales clerk and Ed talked all about the NBA basketball finals coming up!!

We had heard about a great ice cream shop a bit out of town in Metakana, but it was too late to try, we had an appointment with the Elders we had to get back for....maybe next time!
Last night we went to the Community Center for the community choir practice. We introduced ourselves and met approximately 25 people. Everyone was very nice and welcoming and we really enjoyed ourselves! We are also trying to join the Community Garden that is just around the corner from us, but have not been able to meet with the person in charge yet - maybe this week!
This morning Lisa went to a sewing group that meets on Friday mornings at a small shop here. Ed went and attempted some visits. We had a very wet, rainy morning and it's the beginning of a three day weekend (the Queen's Birthday)
We are excited to finally attend church here in Wellsford this Sunday, and meet the branch members! We hear there will be about 70 Young Single Adults attending who are at a camp near here, so it should  be a packed meeting. Being that there are only 1500 people in Wellsford, we are trying to immerse ourselves in the community in as many ways as we can.

These are our Elders in Wellsford and Dargaville.

Still having a hard time processing that it's fall here!

Matt mentioned this video to Lisa this week so we decided to share it with some of those we will be visiting.

All in all , we are really enjoying the beautiful area and the wonderful people we are meeting!
We are looking forward to more opportunities this week to share the Gospel and invite others to come unto Christ!
